Medical Records
Position Summary:
To ensure that records are collected, processed for surgery/procedures in a timely and confidential manner. Prevents loss or destruction of records. Protects the patient’s/facility’s right of privacy per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Is responsible for remaining familiar with any changes with the HIPAA law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares patient chart after insurance has been verified and chart created for new procedures. Prints patient chart stickers and affixes to all forms in chart. Ensures that chart is reviewed for accuracy of patient information.
Responsible for making sure that patient charts are ready for the pre-op visit and complete and available for review by nursing and medical staff by noon the day prior to surgery. Any missing information must be communicated to the appropriate personnel and obtained. Call or fax to specialist office for additional medical information requested by nursing. Returns to nursing for their review and approval for surgery by the end of the work day.
Makes sure that the appropriate forms are in the chart for completion.
Provides and/or cross-coverage of other business office positions, willingly and efficiently.
Relates to patients, physicians and their office staff in a pleasant, effective manner.
Participates in maintaining a pleasant work environment with co-workers and supports the mission and goals of Same Day SurgiCare.
Job Specifications:
Education: High school diploma. Attendance of a college program for a minimum of two years.
Experience: Knowledge of medical record, release of information and medical terminology at a level generally acquired during two to five years in medical records in a hospital or surgery center setting.
Requirements:
Ability to deliver high quality customer service utilizing excellent verbal, telephone communication, and writing skills.
